Heatstroke in dogs: warning signs and first aid
Thailand's heat puts dogs at risk, especially flat-faced breeds. Know the signs and what to do on the way to the vet.

Heatstroke is a life-threatening emergency, and flat-faced breeds are especially at risk.
Warning signs
- Heavy panting and thick saliva
- Very red or pale gums and tongue
- Stumbling, vomiting or sudden lethargy
First aid
- Move your dog into shade or air conditioning
- Wet the body with room-temperature water, especially belly, groin and paws
- Do not use ice or very cold water
- Offer small sips of water if your dog is alert
- Go to the nearest vet straight away, even if your dog seems better
